Hi… I’m Alex and I’ve worked with over 2000 start-ups and small businesses worldwide. I have an MBA from a top business school but most of what I learned was from making dozens of mistakes in small business. I’m passionate about integrative healthcare and business. I am also the author of half a dozen books on business and psychology.
Most EES Center owners want to be a force for healing in the world. By taking the leap to set up an EES center, you have embarked on a hero’s journey. We are a “heart centered” team that is passionate about helping you succeed in this journey.
Unfortunately, nearly half of independent small businesses will fail within 5 years. One in five are gone in the first year. This saddens me because every closed business represents broken dreams. There are many reasons small businesses fail including lack of capital or funding, inadequate management, faulty business models and unsuccessful marketing initiatives. Sometimes it is the unexpected – a flooding, a fire or sudden downturn in the economy.
Early on, most independent businesses are formulating and fine tuning their business models. They are in a race against the clock. If they don’t figure out what works in time…they run out of cash and the business never really takes off. The plane runs out of runway.
Successful businesses are like icebergs. You only see what is above water. Apple has sold billions of iPhones since its launch in 2007. But what you don’t see are the hundreds of development iterations that it took to build the device in the first place.
Franchises work! They come with proven business models and systems. When you buy into a McDonalds you get location assistance, floor plans, cooking equipment and precise instructions on how to make hamburgers and French fries. There is even a recommended type of potato. You also get a license to use a world famous brand, access to training and financial metrics.
EESystem is not a franchise. The manufacturer offer systems, installation and calibration support only. Unifyd offers promotional videos, shared testimonials and referrals to business partners. These are all good, but it is not enough! You are basically on your own to figure out the details.
I’ve spoken with dozens of center owners with a wide variety of strategies. Some are adding EES to their existing holistic practices while others are offering dedicated “theater” models. Some have 48 units while others just have a cube. Some are located in commercial spaces and retail centers while others operate out of their homes.
Essentially, there are over 300 business experiments out there. And while there are outlier success stories, It is obvious that no one has really figured out a long-term sustainable business model.
